Semi Automatic Mason -SAM

Construction industry is very much labor-intensive. We all know that the construction industry is facing shortage of labors, which is likely to increase more, a serious problem for the industry. So Automation was the only possible thing to counteract the labor shortage but incorporating robotics in construction sites will not be a good idea because of the open environment unlike closed industrial operations.

But a robot was designed by New York-based Construction Robotics, this robot mason is named SAM 100, short for "Semi-Automated Mason. Which is seen as a breakthrough in our industry, can lay about 300 to 400 bricks per hour—far more than a human worker's average of about 60 to 75 bricks. However, SAM's aim is not to replace bricklayers on construction sites, but rather to help them in working more efficiently.

SAM cannot work without masons by its side, who are responsible for setting it up, striking the joints and making sure the finished product meets quality standards.

It's the first bricklaying robot commercially available and doesn't actually replace a traditional mason. Rather, it works in collaboration with a mason, increasing their productivity up to five-fold.

With the help of robots like SAM, the construction industry may be better able to handle the labor shortage it is currently facing due to a combined boom in construction projects and skilled workers who are aging out of the workforce.
